BP2-2009122 #2 Discovering web 2.0 tools

Two Wen 2.0 Media
Digital Story telling is media I find interesting and useful in my environment. It is the practice of using computer generated tools and images coupled with sound to tell stories. Textual and audio recorded narration are included.
Like any story it will have a point of view. It could be personal stories of life events actual or imagined or historically reconstructed event. Any body, anywhere and at any time can tell stories that touch the heart
A practical use of this tool is an example from University of Houston website on Educational Uses of Digital Story telling where Lee, H (1960) To Kill a Mockingbird , a novel that examines and focuses attention on the issue of prejudice and racism in America is used; the novel was so a successful novel in exposing prejudice in America that banning it became an issue in Oklahoma as shown in the website , Educational Uses of Digital story Telling.
I will use this medium to help my students research and relate to others the cultural milieu in which novels were written, make such characters in the novels come alive through images and pictures and music and narration. This could be done collaboratively to encourage participation and pooled intelligences

In the words of Dominic Ouellet-Tremblay, a fifth-grade student at St-Joseph Institute in Quebec City,Canada: “Blogs give us a chance to communicate between us and motivate us to write... Blogging is an opportunity to exchange our point of view with the rest of the world not just people in our immediate environment” Downes(2009) The student goes on to tell how comments and feedback make them know what weakness they have and strive to improve on it. There in a nut shell and much more are what I hope to accomplish by using blogs in the classroom.
I will select topics of interest on a book we are studying and ask students to say their minds on it. With the rubrics for blog writing made clear to them, students will be forced to learn to read and write and learn from others. They will be in touch with the whole wide world.
