Blogs use in education
According to Merriam-Webster dictionary a blog is a website :
‘that contains an online personal journal with reflections, comments, and often hyperlinks provided by the writer; also : the contents of such a site.’
Blogs get a learner connected to friends, relations, classmates and teachers . It spurs one to think and reflect on life’s experiences, and helps to develop writing skills and abilities.
Reading other people’s blogs gives one ideas or sharpens thoughts. It also provides opportunities for diverse perspectives on a topic. Blogs increase students’ interest and ownership in learning and becomes a legitimate chance to participate in learning
Blogs can be used to encourage collaboration among students, teachers and parents for the development of the child.
As a follow up on the lesson on comparing two poems : Frost’s ‘The Road Not Taken’ and Piercy’s ‘To be of use;’ I would ask students to post reflections to experiences and decisions they have had in the past week/month where they reflected or made decision that would affect their life in the future. Decisions on their future career choices, areas of study to devote more time and effort, life partners and girl friends or boy friends as the case maybe, making clear the areas of conflict they faced. Note: conflict comes in when there at least two possible paths to go and one weighs the merits or risks of one over the other.

Chuks - very concise description of a blog: Reading other people’s blogs gives one ideas or sharpens thoughts. Thanks for the invitation -look forward to another visit.
ReplyDeleteChuks, I am glad you gave the dictionary discription of blog: I especially agree that blog can be used to encourage collaboration among students, teachers and parents. Thanks for inviting me to read your blog.
ReplyDeletechuks, I must say I love the image on your post. I also like the post on blogging in the classroom. It is amazing that some teachers and even administrators are afraid of using blogs and wikies in the classroom for fear these web 2.0 tools will be misused by the students and teachers. Hopefully they will come arround to the reality of the usefulness of these tools in the classroom and how many students and teachers are making them thier own creative personal space. Thanks for sharing your post with me, Susan.
